What has been your favorite part of the summer in 2017?

Palmyra Concert Series gives community a chance to unwind and relax.

The Palmyra Concert Series continued its weekly performances on Tuesday at the Band Shell. For the township, it is a relaxing event, which allows the community a chance to get out of the house and hear some soothing music.

With the summer coming closer to an end, the concert series is set to go through the remainder of August.

With many summer activities from which to choose, some residents reflected on their favorite part so far.

Most people mentioned being outdoors despite the high heat at times, however the activities differed.

George Berryann, a graduate of Palmyra High School in 1964, has enjoyed the simpler things, including growing tomatoes and wild flowers on his deck at home.

“I enjoy being outdoors, especially when it isn’t too hot,” Berryann said.

Stan Malinowski, one of two guitarists in last Tuesday’s entertainment, the Last Exit Party Band, has enjoyed being down in Long Beach Island a few times, while his wife Debbie and daughter Allison have enjoyed other activities.

“I have enjoyed going to the community pool,” Debbie said. “It is relaxing and a change of pace from a busy schedule.”

“I have been taking it easy this summer,” Allison said. “But my favorite part would be checking out the Cape May Zoo.”

Chris Tisdale, lead vocalist for the band, thanked the band for his fun this summer.

“Playing with these guys around the area has been the most fun I’ve had in awhile,” Tisdale said. Despite most of the guys all coming from different towns, they have been able to play frequently throughout South Jersey.

As for Lewis Yetter, a Palmyra councilman and an active voice in the community, the Palmyra Concert Series is his go-to event of choice each week.

“I love these concerts,” Yetter said. “It’s nice to get out and listen to different genres of music every week.”

Other than the local events, Yetter reminisced on a trip down the Shore with his relatives.

“I took my granddaughters fishing, and we caught some baby sand sharks,” Yetter said. “They are 12 and 14, but loved every minute of fishing, which made me happy inside.”

Bill Newsome, the second guitarist in the band, enjoyed staying indoors and relaxing in the air conditioning between heatwaves. Drummer Joe Messina had a unique event, which he enjoyed the most this summer.

“Playing at the beer gardens was pretty fun,” Messina said. “It was something new and unique, and we would definitely do it again.”

Everyone who shared their favorite memories at last week’s concert had different stories to tell, but could add a few more stories before summer’s end. The Concert Series takes place at the Band Shell at 7 p.m.
