Resurfacing project in Washington Township to begin Friday

The resurfacing of Ganttown Road/Chapel Heights Road will take place from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Gloucester County will be resurfacing Ganttown Road / Chapel Heights Road from Egg Harbor Road to Thies Road in Washington Township Friday night, Aug. 18.

According to Freeholder Robert M. Damminger and Freeholder Heather Simmons, the project is being completed to address the deterioration of the existing surface. The accessible ramps within the project limits have already been brought up to code and are now compliant.

The project will consist of milling two inches of the existing asphalt and overlaying the roadway with two inches of a new asphalt surface course. Wheel ruts and other pavement distortions will be removed by this pavement overlay. The concrete sidewalk ramps have been upgraded to meet current ADA standards and the storm inlets will have minor repairs performed on them. Existing inlet grates not meeting NJDOT standards will be replaced with new bicycle safety grates. The inlet openings not meeting NJ Storm Water Management Guidelines will be replaced or retrofitted. Traffic striping will also be replaced.

The roadway will be detoured but will allow traffic to flow in one direction throughout the length of the project. The contractor will post the detour. Residents shall have access to their driveways at all times.

The hours of the project operation will commence at 7 p.m. and end at 6 a.m. This project should be completed in one day.
