Palmyra resident Lewis Yetter continues to give back to the Borough

Palmyra has always been a special place to Lewis Yetter, ever since he moved to the borough in 1962. The 62-year-old moved here from Northeast Philadelphia in the first grade, and hasn’t left. After working for Verizon for 25 years, Yetter spent several years looking after his mother while she lived with him in town. Now he has given himself back to the community that helped raise him, as a member of six groups in the borough. Yetter joined Borough Council in 2015, and is also a member of the Public Works Committee, the Green Team, Business Development committee and Parks and Playground committee, and helps with the Palmyra Farmers Market.

Borough Council decides on “Palmyra Promenade” as park name

Some processes in certain towns take longer than others to complete. As for the Borough of Palmyra, it checked off one of its ongoing topics of discussion in July. On July 17, Mayor Michelle Arnold and Borough Council overwhelmingly decided on “Palmyra Promenade” as the name of the town’s new waterfront park. The park, located on Bank Avenue between Morgan and Garfield avenues, will face the Delaware River and house a patio/stage area for concerts and events. The project was funded by a grant from the Burlington County Freeholders via the Municipal Park Development Program.

Burlington County Health Department to offer free radon kits

“The Burlington County Health Department is working with The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to bring increased awareness to the public on the risks of radon,” said Freeholder Director Bruce Garganio. “Radon is an odorless and colorless gas that can cause lung cancer,” added Garganio. “According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers and is responsible for about 21,000 lung cancer deaths every year. About 2,900 of these deaths occur among people who have never smoked.”
