The Camden County Freeholder Board is seeking volunteers to bolster the Meals on Wheels program, which provides meals to more than 300 Camden County senior citizens.
In light of the federal dialogue about cutting funding related to Meals on Wheels programs, the Camden County Freeholder Board is taking the opportunity to highlight the impactful program and seek volunteers to bolster it.
“Meals on Wheels serves the most vulnerable members of our community, and the Freeholder Board has made this program a priority,” said Freeholder Carmen Rodriguez, liaison to the Camden County Department of Health and Human Services. “We will reach out to social workers and discharge planners at hospitals and rehabilitation centers to help identify needs in the community.
The Camden County Department of Health and Human Services provides hot, nutritious meals to more than 300 Camden County senior citizens who are homebound and at the greatest risk of not getting their proper nutrition.
“This is a great opportunity for individuals looking to give something back to their communities. We are looking for people to help assemble meals and deliver them to their neighbors that are unable to leave their homes,” Rodriguez said. “We are also grateful to our friends at the South Jersey Transportation Authority for providing drivers.”
To be eligible for home delivered meals, an individual must:
· Reside in Camden County and be age 60 years or older
· Have a disability and live alone
· Be unable to leave the home without the assistance of another person
· Be unable to prepare a nutritious meal for themselves
· Have daytime assistance for no more than four hours during the day
· Not require a special diet
· Not be a recipient of Medicaid Managed Long Term Support Services
