South Jersey NOW-Alice Paul Chapter to host psychologist specializing in trauma at Aug. 9 meeting

The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 19 West Main St., Moorestown.

On Wednesday, Aug. 9, South Jersey NOW-Alice Paul Chapter will host Dr. Jennifer Perry, a psychologist at Rowan University’s Counseling & Psychological Services who specializes in assessment and treatment of trauma.

According to South Jersey NOW-Alice Paul Chapter, nearly 25 percent of young women are victims of sexual assault before the age of 18, with young girls often becoming involved in the juvenile justice system due to “acting out” stemming from their trauma.

Perry will discuss issues related young girls and women in schools and trauma-informed practices meant to help young girls and women feel safe and get the help they need.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 19 West Main Street, Moorestown. Those attending can enter via side door closest to municipal parking lot and Carl’s Shoe Store.

This program include refreshments, letter writing and announcements and is open to members and non-members of South Jersey NOW-Alice Paul Chapter.

According to the National Organization for Women’s website, South Jersey NOW–Alice Paul chapter, founded in October 1971, includes activist women and men who work to further legal, social, and political equality for women and their families in Southern New Jersey.
