Evesham Township Police seeking public’s help identifying alleged ATM skimming suspects

Police say two suspects allegedly installed surveillance equipment on an ATM located outside the TD Bank, 336 W. Route 70 on July 28.

The following information is on file with the Evesham Township Police Department:

The Evesham Township Police Department is attempting to identify two suspects who police say allegedly installed surreptitious surveillance equipment on an ATM located outside the TD Bank, 336 W. Route 70 on July 28.

At this time, police say it appears that security features on the TD Bank ATM prevented the skimming device from obtaining any victims account information. Police say the skimming device was placed on the ATM at 4:30 p.m. on July 28 and remained on the ATM for only a few hours.

Police say pictures of the suspects were captured by a security camera inside the ATM when the skimming device was installed. According to police, the one suspect first attached a small electronic device over the card slot, to record customers’ account information, and he then attached a small pin-hole camera to the ATM to record the users entering their PIN number. Police say the second suspect can be seen in the background of the video.

According to police, in most skimming cases the stolen information is later encoded onto blank cards and can be used at ATMs to withdraw funds using the customer’s PIN.

If anyone knows the identity of this suspect, they are asked to contact the Evesham Police Department at (856)983–1116, the Confidential Tip Line at (856) 983–4699 or email at Facebook@Eveshampd.org. Anonymous tips text ETPDTIP to 847411.

Police have also released the following tips on how to avoid being skimmed:

– Inspect the ATM, gas pump, or credit card reader before using it and be suspicious if one sees anything loose, crooked, or damaged, or if one notices scratches or adhesive/tape residue.

– When entering a PIN, block the keypad with the unused other hand to prevent possible hidden cameras from recording any numbers.

– If possible, use an ATM at an inside location, as there are less access for criminals to install skimmers.

– If a card isn’t returned after the transaction or after hitting “cancel,” immediately contact the financial institution that issued the card
