Weekly Roundup: Evesham BOE approves lease for Evans Elementary, bear sighted in town

Evesham BOE approves five-year lease with Yale School for use of Evans Elementary facility

The Evesham Township School District Board of Education used a special meeting this week to approve its five-year lease agreement with private school operator Yale School for use of the Evans Elementary School facility. The board approved the lease in a 5–4 vote that will see Yale School lease the building effective Aug. 1. The lease is a full-service lease with the district for five years, with Yale set to pay about $665,000 for the first year.

Evesham Police release tips for dealing with bears after bear sighting in town

On July 26, officers with the Evesham Township Police Department responded to the area of Barton Run Boulevard and Jessica Court at 6:30 p.m. for a sighting of a black bear. According to police, the bear entered the rear yard of a home, at which time the homeowner took a video of the bear. If the bear is spotted once again, residents are asked to contact the New Jersey Fish and Wildlife at (877) 927–6337. Police also released safety tip to help any resident who might come in come into contact with a bear.

Marlton’s historic Stokes-Evans House added to redevelopment plan to help with preservation

Historic Stokes-Evans House on Main Street added to redevelopment History buffs in town can breathe slightly easier with the amended redevelopment plan township council recently adopted that includes the historic Stokes-Evans House on Main Street. With the newly amended redevelopment plan, township officials are requesting any potential, future developer of the property move the mansion about 100 feet closer to Main Street before developing the area. Presently, the building is set back 125 feet from the sidewalk on Main Street.

Evesham Township Police Department to launch 2017 series of ETPD trading cards

A popular community-policing program returns as officers and civilian employees with the Evesham Township Police Department begin carrying the new 2017 series of ETPD trading cards. Each card features an officer or civilian employee on the front, and as of Aug. 1, department members are set to once again distribute cards to any child willing to ask for a card. Children are encouraged to approach and interact with department members, either by having a brief conversation or even just shaking their hands.

Evesham Police arrest Camden City man on charges of allegedly selling heroin in town

On July 24, members of the Evesham Police Investigative Unit and the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office conducted a proactive narcotics investigation into the illegal sale of heroin in Evesham Township. According to Evesham Police, the investigation led to the arrest of a Camden City male and female. During a proactive undercover operation, the pair was arrested in an Evesham business parking lot on Route 70. As a result of the stop, police say they seized 24 bags of heroin, PCP, and Ecstasy were seized.
