Students who have questions or anxiety about moving middle school can attend the district’s “Sixth Grade Survivor Camp.”
Students in the Evesham Township School District who recently graduated elementary school and have questions or anxiety about moving to their new middle school in September are once again being offered a chance to attend to district’s “Sixth Grade Survivor Camp” this summer.
Originally created by a DeMasi Middle School teacher several years ago, the district-run program offers students a chance to learn some of the ins and outs of middle school before they officially start school in a few months.
Whether it’s staying organized, learning how to make new friends, figuring out a combination locker or even just learning the layout of the building, students in the program will spend three hours per day learning at their future middle school during the course of a week.
According to the district, the program is designed to provide students with a preview of many of the middle school structures and routines commonly experienced by the district’s sixth-grade students.
During the camp, district officials said middle school teachers will give students lessons involving organization, problem-solving and study skills.
“I think it’s a nice opportunity to be able to offer parents and students who want that extra reassurance an opportunity to work with our middle school teachers before the school starts,” said Danielle Magulick, director of curriculum for the district.
Students can sign up for a.m. or p.m. sessions to run at DeMasi and Marlton Middle Schools Monday through Thursday the week of Aug. 21 to Aug. 24.
Morning session will run from 9 a.m. to noon, with afternoon sessions running from 1 to 4 p.m.
To sign up, families can return a registration form with a check or money order for $120, payable to: Evesham Township School District, Attn: Curriculum Dept., 25 S. Maple Ave., Marlton, NJ 08053.

Registration forms are due to the district by July 31.

Students are also asked to bring a snack and drink each day they are at the camp.
