Motorcyclist dies after crash on Route 42

The accident took place around 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 15

A Delaware man died on the scene of an accident on Route 42, north of the Berlin Cross Keys Bypass, around 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 15.

Washington Township police said Octavius C. Lewis, 45, from Hartly, had been driving a 2013 Suzuki GXA motorcycle when he struck the driver’s side of a 2009 Ford F-250 pick-up truck while it was making a right turn from the TD Bank parking lot onto the state highway.

According to police, Lewis was unseated from his motorcycle, making contact with a vehicle stopped in traffic, and then came to rest in a southbound lane.

The F-250 operator, a 25-year-old male of Collings Lake, was not injured during the crash.

There were no charges filed at the time, while the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to contact Washington Township Police Officer Len Baldyga at (856) 589–6650.
