Evesham Police make arrest after K-9 sniffs out heroin during traffic stop on July 7

Police charged a Marlton man with third-degree possession of heroin and a disorderly persons offense for possession of hypodermic needles.

The following information is on file with the Evesham Township Police Department:

On July 7 at 4:20 p.m., an ETPD detective conducted a motor vehicle stop on Brick Road inside the department’s Data-Driven Approaches to Crime and Traffic Safety (DDACTS) zone.

During the investigation, police say Evesham Police K-9 EZ was called upon to assist officers with the detection of narcotics.

Police say the K-9 was walked around the exterior of the suspect’s vehicle, at which time police say she alerted officers to the presence of narcotics inside the car.

According to police, a subsequent search of the vehicle by officers resulted in the discovery of heroin and hypodermic needles.

Arrested:

A male, age 29, of Marlton, was charged with third-degree possession of heroin and a disorderly persons offense for possession of hypodermic needles. He was released on his own recognizance.

According to police, DDACTS integrates location-based crime and traffic data to establish effective and efficient methods for deploying law enforcement and other resources. Using geomapping to identify areas that have high incidences of crime and crashes, DDACTS uses traffic enforcement strategies that play a dual role in fighting crime and reducing crashes and traffic violations.
