Local events in the swimming pool — and beyond

The Sun
Judging by the bright sun and brighter red thermometers, summer has hit Sicklerville. Winslow and Gloucester townships both have a ton of events to stay cool and active.
If you’re looking for events to dive into, use the list below as a springboard:
Winslow Township Family Day
Come to New Brooklyn Park on Saturday, July 22 from 2 to 8 p.m. for Winslow Township Family Day. Now in its 14th year, the event promises to offer live entertainment, food vendors and giveaways. Entertainment includes performances from One Soul, and a tribute to The Temps and Tops. The event has been a hit for the past 13 years, bringing families in droves to enjoy the festivities.
Winslow and Gloucester townships concert series
If music is your thing, both townships will be jamming out this summer. Winslow will feature a concert each month at New Brooklyn Park. It will feature One Soul on July 22 (coinciding with Family Day) and City Rhythm on Aug. 17. Shows start at 7 p.m.
Gloucester Township will present a concert every Monday through Aug. 7. This year’s performers include Big Bleu Band, Paradise Island Entertainment and The Fabulous 60’s Revival Band. All performances will take place in Veterans Park starting at 7 or 7:30 p.m.
SPKN Pool Party
Be sure to pack some water wings and snorkels. The Special Parents & Kids Network is hosting a pool party for kids with special needs to celebrate the organization’s fourth birthday.
The free event will include access to a wheelchair lift as well as a one-foot children’s pool. Lifeguards will be on site.
The event will take place Sunday, July 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Gloucester Township Pool. There is enough space for 200 people, so be sure to register beforehand. To register, contact Judy at (609) 472–0269 or [email protected].
Movie Night Series
Bypass expensive tickets and sticky floors to enjoy movies under the night sky. Gloucester Township is hosting a monthly movie night series that will play animated gems “Moana” and “The Secret Life of Pets.” The free screening begins at dusk, or come early to enjoy some food and games.
“Moana” will screen Thursday, July 13, and “The Secret Life of Pets” will screen Thursday, Aug. 10. Bring your own blankets and chairs and enjoy a movie under the stars. “The Lego Batman Movie” will screen Friday, Sept. 15.
Challenge Island Emoji Camp
Turn your kids’ love of emojis and texting into a fun and active camp. Challenge Island is an education enrichment franchise that creates themed camps, or “islands,” for children to solve their way through.
From Aug. 7 to 11, kids can explore an emoji-themed island located at Gloucester Township Recreation Center. Kids will play with themes such as Silly Emoji Day and Scary Emoji Day, all while competing in STEAM challenges.
Head over to Gloucester Township’s website to reserve tickets. Spots are limited.
