Weekly Roundup: It’s officially summer, and Voorhees Township is ready

From concerts to National Night Out, Voorhees Township is gearing up for summer activities with a variety of events for the whole family. Local athletes were shining recently with Eastern graduate Davis Schneider’s selection in the MLB draft and a number of Eastern High School players competing in the Phillies Carpenter Cup and Carpenter Cup Classic.

Voorhees Got Talent will debut at Connolly Park on Thursday, July 20, and residents had a chance to audition June 20 and 22. Event producer Gabrielle Horvitz said they are looking for “any kind of talent — from juggling, to breathing fire, to magic, to singing and dancing.” The inaugural talent show was just one of the highlights for the township’s slate of summer events.

Davis Schneider talks going pro

Eastern Regional High School Class of 2017 graduate Davis Schneider signed with the Toronto Blue Jays, and he’s excited to go pro. “I couldn’t believe it. I saw my name popped up (during the draft) and I thought it was a mistake at first,” Schneider said.

Local student-athletes compete in Phillies tournaments

The Phillies Softball Carpenter Cup and the Phillies Baseball Carpenter Cup Classic both took place in recent weeks, and Eastern High School had several players taking part in the tournaments. Sophomore Madison Guyer and junior Rachel Waro represented Eastern in the Softball Carpenter Cup on the Olympic Colonial team. Juniors Jack Herman and Jesse Barbera and seniors Lou Priolo and Davis Schneider played on the Olympic Colonial team in the Carpenter Cup Classic.
