VAO bags more than 5,500 pairs of shoes

Voorhees Animal Orphanage far exceeds its goal for its spring shoe drive, held in partnership with Funds2Orgs

Two kittens peer out of fuzzy blue boots at the Voorhees Animal Orphanage. The boots were donated — along with more than 5,500 other pairs of shoes — to a shoe drive the shelter held through the spring.

This spring, in a partnership with Funds2Orgs, the Voorhees Animal Orphanage collected gently used or new shoes. For the shelter, the shoes convert into cash. For Funds2Orgs, the shoes provide a sustainable living wage for micro-entrepreneurs in developing nations.

The VAO did not only reach its goal of 100 bags of shoes, with 25 pairs in each bag — it far exceeded the goal. By the end of the drive in May, the final tally was 220 bags of shoes. That’s more than 5,500 pairs of shoes!

The shelter is thankful to everyone in the community who contributed to its successful shoe drive.
