All are safe after suspicious person on roof caused the police department to put the school on lockdown
On Tuesday, June 13 at approximately 11:28 a.m., the Gloucester Township Police Department responded to the Erial Elementary School for a report of a subject on the roof. While officers were responding to the school, officials placed the school in a lockdown status. The exterior and interior doors and windows were secured, and no movement was allowed within the school.
Officers quickly arrived, and a perimeter was established. The roof was searched to locate the suspicious person. The defendant, a 22-year-old Sicklerville resident, was located and placed into custody. At this time, the building and roof were checked for any additional suspects or anything suspicious. Nothing additional was located. At this time, it is believed that the defendant did not intend to cause anyone harm.
Once the scene was secured, the lockdown was lifted and the students resumed normal activity.
The suspected was arrested and charged with criminal trespass.
