On Campus: Moorestown students graduate, make dean’s list

Dozens of Moorestown residents have recently graduated and earned dean’s list distinction.

Madalena Hughes of Moorestown was honored as one of the brightest young students in the world at a recent awards ceremony sponsored by the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth, or CTY.

Madalena, a participant in the CTY Talent Search, was recognized for scoring exceptionally high on a rigorous, above-grade-level test.

Madalena, a graduating student from Westfield Friends School, was one of more than 27,000 students from more than 65 countries who participated in the CTY talent search between March 2016 and February 2017. Only about 25 percent of talent search participants earned the High Honors designation. Madalena will be attending Moorestown Friends School in the fall.

John Roccato of Moorestown graduated from the University of San Diego on May 28. Roccato earned a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering.

Moorestown resident Ian Michael Fiedler graduated from University of Pennsylvania on May 15 Magna cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in psychology.

James Madison University announced the following students who graduated with honors. Krista Batezel of Moorestown graduated cum laude with a degree in psychology. Erinn Miller of Moorestown graduated magna cum laude with a degree in interdisciplinary liberal studies.

Sharon Liu, daughter of Jolin Tsao and Roy Liu of Moorestown, has been named to the dean’s list at Hamilton College for the 2017 spring semester. A May graduate, Liu majored in Chinese and history at Hamilton.

Andrew Douglas Pederson of Moorestown graduated from Samford University during recent commencement exercises. Pederson earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Arts.

Nick Schafhauser, a computer information systems major at Grove City College, has been named to the dean’s list for the Spring 2017 semester. He is a 2014 graduate of Moorestown High School and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Schafhauser (Lisa) from Moorestown.

Allison Nicole Francisco and Jamie Blair Rafter of Moorestown were named to Kutztown University’s Spring 2017 dean’s list.

Allison Darmo or Moorestown has been named to the dean’s list for the Spring 2017 semester at the University of Vermont. Darmo is undeclared in the College of Arts & Sciences.

Carey D’Avino of Moorestown graduated from Colgate University. D’Avino, a graduate of St. Joseph’s Prep School, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English cum laude at Colgate’s 196th Commencement.

Bucknell University has released the dean’s list for outstanding academic achievement during the spring semester of the 2016–17 academic year. Moorestown residents Kelly Bowman, Jessie Britton, Virginia Flagler, Ross Lazarus, Nathan Riggins and Marlee Warwick were on the list.

Matthew Kaplan of Moorestown, majoring in exercise and sport science, was among 1,920 students at Coastal Carolina University who made the Spring 2017 dean’s list.

Christian George and Nathan Riggins of Moorestown graduated from Bucknell University on May 21.
