Washington Township High School head athletic trainer Tanya Dargusch will be inducted into the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Hall of Fame later this month, while students throughout the district close the school year with accomplishments and recognition. Also, on Tuesday, a NJ Transit bus driver from Sicklerville was shot and killed at the Washington Township bus garage on the Black Horse Pike. WTHS head athletic trainer to be inducted into national hall of fame

Tanya Dargusch’s earned a spot in the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Hall of Fame as Washington Township High School’s head athletic trainer. Dargusch not only works with students daily on and off the field, but also is a national advocate for athletic trainers in the secondary school setting. In a release, the NATA referred to Dargusch as a “game-changer” within the profession0n. Dargusch will be inducted to the NATA Hall of Fame on June 28 in Houston, Texas.

NJ Transit bus driver fatally shot at Washington Township bus garage

A New Jersey Transit bus driver was fatally shot Tuesday afternoon at a NJ Transit bus garage on the Black Horse Pike in Washington Township. A woman believed to have shot the driver took her own life with a gun near a Mantua Township business at Center and Trenton streets a short time later. The deceased driver has been identified as Ryon C. Reynolds, 45, of Sicklerville. The woman has been identified as Piacenta M. Jackson, 44, of Woodbury.

Member of WTHS’s first graduating class returns for nostalgic tour

J. Bruce Kunkel returned to his alma mater 50 years after having graduated himself. As a member of the first graduating class in 1967, was welcomed with a surprise tour of the building. Kunkel lives in Niskayuna, New York, and is retired from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, where he served as the director of campus planning and facilities design.

Two WTHS seniors honored as Student-Employees of the Year

Washington Township High School recently honored seniors Joseph Evangelista and Michelle Pinna as the school’s Student-Employees of the Year. The students participate in the Community Employment Experience class, where they work on job skills in the classroom with teacher Rose Dempsey and then apply their skills to jobs in the community.

Wedgwood fourth-graders become published authors

Thanks to funding supplied through the Washington Township Education Foundation, fourth-grade students in Mary Grace Parchesky’s class at Wedgwood Elementary School are published authors. Students tranferred original works of fiction, complete with illustrations, into purchased hardcover books. The class then shared their finished stories with their first-grade book buddies in Kristie Attardi’s class.

Concerts, movies and events to bring the community together this summer

From concerts and movies in the park for the family, to the returning Fourth of July parade and fireworks festivities, locals will have the opportunity to embrace the sun and Washington Township community with many events happening within the upcoming months. Washington Lake Park is full of events and opportunities this summer to get outside and enjoy the season.
