Obituary: Richard H. Cooper

Richard H. Cooper passed away on June 4 at the age of 85. Born and raised in Ithaca, NY, Richard was the son of William F. and Marjorie L. Cooper and a graduate of Cornell University Class of 1954. Following graduation from Cornell, he served two years in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant in a heavy artillery unit in Darmstadt, Germany.

Richard was a stockbroker on Main Street in Moorestown, where he opened the first brokerage firm in Burlington County more than 50 years ago. He loved his work and was a fixture on the Main Street for his entire career. Richard was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Y’s Men’s Club of Moorestown. Richard and Doug Lewis were co-founders of the Moorestown Antique Show, which was a major fundraiser for the YMCA.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ermyn Eberly of Moorestown, his son, Richard E. Cooper of Medford, his daughters, Carolyn J. Straton of Basking Ridge and Mary C. Winters of Malvern and his four granddaughters, Jennifer J. Cooper, Megan H. Cooper, Ella D. Winters and Erin E. Winters.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, June 10 at the First Presbyterian Church, 101 Bridgeboro Road, Moorestown. Private interment will be held in the Presbyterian Cemetery.
