A message from the Moorestown Board of Education

The Moorestown High School Class of 2017 graduates

The following is a message from the Moorestown Board of Education.

Excellence, equity and engagement via partnership — our district’s fundamental principles — are demonstrated through the many successes of the 344 members of the Moorestown High School Class of 2017. The Moorestown Board of Education is proud of the commitment to this belief, exemplified by our students excelling in academics as well as the arts and athletics. Just a few of the accomplishments of the Class of 2017 are listed below.

Honors

  • Nine students are recognized as Quaker Scholars. These students have maintained an A- or better for all courses on their transcript.
  • One hundred and thirty-seven students are graduating with Honors.
  • Fourteen students received letters of commendation for their achievement on the PSAT/NMSQT.
  • Two students were named National Merit Finalists and one student was named a National Merit Semi-Finalist.
  • Twenty-three seniors were recognized with honors for their accomplishments on the National Spanish Exam, National French Exam and/or the National Latin Exam.
  • Nine seniors earned recognition as South Jersey and New Jersey State Place Winners in the following business competitions: Rowan College at Burlington County’s 3rd Annual Startup Stars Competition, Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Rothman Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship’s 2017 New Jersey Business Idea Challenge, The STEAM Tank Challenge and the NJ Stock Market Game.

Scholarships

  • The class of 2017 received over $115,000 in local scholarships during the Moorestown High School Senior Recognition Reception Ceremony

Service

  • Nine seniors received the Distinguished Service Award by completing 100+ hours of service per year for all four years, 24 seniors received the Presidential Service Recognition Award for completing 100+ hours in their senior year and the Class of 2017 completed 33,562 hours of community service over their four years in high school.

Arts and Athletics

  • Six seniors were invited to perform in All South Jersey Orchestra, Band or Senior High Chorus and three seniors received awards in the Burlington County Teen Arts Festival and New Jersey Teen Arts Festival.
  • Moorestown athletic teams earned BCSL Championships in Girls Cross Country, Girls Tennis, Field Hockey, Boys Cross Country, Boys Swimming, Boys Golf and Boys Tennis and New Jersey Sectional Championships in Field Hockey, Boys Swimming, Girls’Lacrosse, Boys Tennis, Boys Golf, Boys Lacrosse and Boys Track and Field.

Approximately 90 percent of the Class of 2017 will be enrolling in a two or four-year college or university this fall. The remaining students will be attending vocational schools, joining the military, taking a gap year or entering the workforce. Among the schools that will welcome the Class of 2017 in the fall are Rutgers University, Drexel University, New York University, The College of New Jersey, Villanova University, Rowan University, the Pennsylvania State University, University of Texas, the Ohio State University, University of Miami, University of California at Berkeley, Purdue University, Elizabethtown College, Virginia Tech, New York University, The University of Pennsylvania and James Madison University.

As we look forward to welcoming the Class of 2029, the board has engaged in a reflective process to meet the current and future needs of every student in our community. To that end, the board held a retreat last month where we discussed many goals including increasing operational effectiveness, and promoting greater engagement with the community.

In closing, we wish a heartfelt congratulations to the Class of 2017. Your achievements are impressive and too expansive to list in full. The board and the entire Moorestown community applaud your successes. We join you and your families in celebrating your graduation and wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
