Letter to the Editor: Monique Begg

With President Trump at the helm, there’s never a dull moment.

He often speaks off the cuff and tweets whatever comes to mind without regard to the consequences. In the past few days, he managed to insult the mayor and residents of Pittsburgh and the mayor of London. And he’s not through yet with the mayor of London.

He used to say that under President Obama, our country was the laughing stock of the world, and if he were elected, no one would laugh at us again. Well, guess whom the world is laughing at today?

But this is serious business. The time has come for We the People to rouse ourselves from our apathy and make our voices heard.

For starters, we can help President Trump “drain the swamp” by impressing upon members of the “do-nothing” Congress that they cannot remain passive while our president is taking our country down a slippery slope. We must call or write to Representative MacArthur and to Senators Booker and Menendez.

We must tell them in no uncertain terms that we expect them to have the courage to stand up to our President and hold him accountable. They must speak truth to power.
