Weekly Roundup: Mount Laurel BOE honors retirees and staff, curling club to host free event

This week the Mt. Laurel School’s BOE honored retiring and long-serving staff members, The Jersey Pinelands Curling Club announced a free “Try Curling” on June 3 at The Igloo Ice Rink in Mt. Mt. Laurel BOE reviews emergency service drill, honors retiring and long serving staff

Mt. Laurel Schools Superintendent George Rafferty at this week’s board of education meeting reviewed the district’s participation in a township-wide drill on Saturday, May 6, that saw the district and Mt. Laurel’s emergency services respond to a simulated bus crash. The board of education started the meeting by presenting retirement gifts to staff members who had retired for the 2016–2017 school year.

Jersey Pinelands Curling Club to host ‘Try Curling’ event in celebration of Olympic Day on June 3

The spirit of the Olympic movement will soon roll into Mt. Laurel as the Jersey Pinelands Curling Club hosts a free “Try Curling” event for members of the public on Saturday June 3, from 7 to 11 p.m., at The Igloo Ice Rink, 3033 Fostertown Road, Mt. Laurel. Folks may have seen it on the Olympics, but now they can try it themselves at this event being held in celebration of Olympic Day.

Annual Kiki Open Scholarship Golf Tournament fundraiser returns July 18

This summer will mark 25 years of golfing for a good cause with the 25th Annual Kiki Open Scholarship Tournament on July 18. Dedicated members of the community hold the tournament each year to fund high school scholarships in the name of former Lenape Regional High School District Superintendent Kereazis Kiki Konstantinos, who served as superintendent of the district from 1963 through 1993.

Mt. Laurel BOE reviews outline of district’s Gifted Academic Program

Mt. Laurel Schools curriculum supervisor Alexis Bonavitacola presented the board of education with an overview of the district’s Gifted Academic Program at this week’s BOE meeting. Under state law, boards of education in New Jersey must approve gifted academic programs for students who exhibit above-average proficiency in one or multiple areas of study in comparison to their peers.

Bethany Christian Services to host ‘Bethany’s Walk and 5K for Children’ in Mt. Laurel on June 3

The Greater Delaware Valley branch of Bethany Christian Services is hosting “Bethany’s Walk and 5K for Children” in Mt. Laurel on Saturday, June 3, to raise funds and awareness for foster care, adoption and family preservation. Bethany Christian Services is a global nonprofit organization that has been serving kids and families in the region since 1980. Bethany Christian Services recruits, trains, and gives expert trauma-informed support to resource families to meet the needs of kids who have suffered tragic loss, violence or neglect.
