Haddonfield resident headed to Sarasota for U.S. Rowing Youth Nationals

Haddonfield resident David Reader coached three boats to a win qualifying to compete at the 2017 U.S. Rowing Youth National Championships.

Three of Haddonfield resident David Reader’s boats qualified to compete at the 2017 U.S. Rowing Youth National Championships in Sarasota, Fla. from June 9 to 11. Reader coaches the Varsity Women’s 4+, Varsity Women’s 2x and Varsity Women’s 4x at South Jersey Rowing Club. He is also a teacher at Haddonfield Memorial High School.

The women earned two gold medals and one bronze at the US Rowing Mid-Atlantic Championships on Saturday, May 13 at Lake Mercer, West Windsor, New Jersey, despite heavy rain and gusts of wind up to 25 mph. In addition to the three varsity women’s boats, two men’s boats, the Men’s Youth 4+ and Men’s Youth 2x also qualified for Sarasota. The team will take students from 11 area high schools to compete at Nationals, including HMHS students Mac Van Buskirk and Christie Castorino.
