Prizes for the winning efforts to deliver visual messages about the dangers of inattentive driving will include savings certificates, tickets to sports events and gift certificates to salons and restaurants. Students with valid school IDs will also be eligible for an iPad door prize.

Developed to encourage creativity and learning about driver safety, the contest is sponsored by the Gloucester County High Safety Task Force, an advisory group to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office.

The 2017 contest has picked the outstanding educational and imaginative video in five categories: driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs; driving distracted (texting, phone use); use of seatbelts; driving while sleep-deprived; and aggressive driving. An overall winner has also been selected.

In most years since the contest’s inception in 2004, teams of students at a majority of the county’s high schools have submitted more than 100 videos that have won praise from the State Division of Highway Traffic Safety and the New Jersey Safety Council.
