Members of the Washington Township High School Project Unify Club collectively were bustin’ a move on May 3 when dance teacher Eisa Jackson and some of her Dance Club students hosted a dance clinic for the school’s special needs students.

Sponsored under the umbrella of Special Olympics of New Jersey, Project Unify is a club whose goal is to activate young people to have true cultures of inclusiveness between special and regular education students. The activities promote socialization, skill development and teamwork.

“My students are fearless,” said WTHS special education teacher Jan Brodzinski, who joined in the fun. “They will try anything, and they are clearly enjoying this activity.”

Jackson had all the students shimmying, shaking, sashaying and smiling through a party-like hour of dance routines, choreographed and freelanced, under strobe lighting.

“The clinic was wonderful, exciting and inclusive,” WTHS assistant principal Angela Costello said. “From the icebreaker, to the warm-ups, to the dance, Ms. Jackson kept the action flowing. The students had a fantastic time, and the camaraderie was so vibrantly present. It was such a fun afternoon for so many students.”
