Cinnaminson welcomes two new police officers

Cinnaminson residents Adam Somers and Thomas Rosati will be officially sworn in upon their graduation from the police academy.

The Cinnaminson Township Police Department welcomed two new officers at last week’s Township Committee meeting.

Public Safety Director Mickey King explained it is tradition for the department to bring in new officers for introduction to committee and residents before they attend the police academy, then swear them in after they graduate the academy.

Cinnaminson residents Adam Somers and Thomas Rosati will begin the police academy in Mercer County in May and will be formally sworn in upon their graduation in approximately six months.

“They should be commended,” King said. “The background and the interview and selection process that we have here in Cinnaminson is one of the most intense, and for them to get through that and score as high as they did, they should be commended.”

Committee recently passed an ordinance allowing for the restructuring of the police department. The ordinance allows for a police captain position as well as additional sergeants and officers.

The department has 24 sworn officers with five sergeants and one lieutenant. The restructuring will allow for up to 29 officers, eight sergeants, two lieutenants and one captain. Two lieutenant positions are available, though only one is filled. The ordinance creates a new structure but will not necessarily fill every position.

At the request of King, committee removed an item from the consent agenda at last week’s meeting that would authorize King to fill four promotional positions, one lieutenant and three sergeants.

Mayor Anthony Minniti congratulated the officers and welcomed them to the department.
