Mt. Laurel Police report on resident who was scammed out $500 in Apple iTune gift cards

The following reports are on file with the Mt. Laurel Township Police Department:

On April 26, a resident reported that on April 20 he received a phone call from a man claiming he was from “Computer System Repair Company.”

The caller/suspect convinced the victim that his computer was at risk and needed a fire wall installed.

The victim gave the suspect permission to remotely access his computer and a computer program was installed on the victim’s computer.

The victim paid a $350 fee by money order.

On April 24, the suspect called the victim again and attempted to convince the victim to send a $3,000 check to him and in return he would receive a $5,000 check.

The suspect also attempted to obtain the victim’s personal and banking information. The victim eventually agreed to send the suspect $500 in the form of Apple iTune gift cards.

Shortly after sending the money the victim realized he had been scammed.

Between April 25 and April 26, someone attempted to steal an 8KW generator off of a work truck parked at 2026 Briggs Road. The thief was apparently not able to carry the generator and dropped it next to the truck.

At 11:57 a.m. on April 25, Mt. Laurel Police stopped a suspicious person on Ark Road near Marne Highway. During the stop, officers arrested a female, age 47, of Mt. Laurel. She was charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released pending a court hearing.

At 7:25 p.m. on April 24, a suspect stole a tip jar containing cash and coins from the counter of Skyler’s Hoagies, 1200 S. Church St. An employee chased the suspect but the suspect was able to reach a waiting gray Ford Escape parked behind the business.

At 4:36 p.m. on April 23, Mt. Laurel Police responded to the parking lot of the Cracker Barrel restaurant on Route 73. A victim reported her car was purposely scratched from the passenger side front door to the rear of the car. The victim suspects the damage was done by an unknown motorist with whom she had a dispute with over a parking spot when she arrived at the restaurant.

On April 23, a guest of a hotel on the 900 block of Route 73 reported that his iPhone 6S had been stolen from his room.

On April 23, it was discovered someone damaged an emergency vehicle access gate located on Oakmont Drive. The gate opening mechanism was partially disassembled and damaged.

At 12:30 p.m. on April 23, Mt. Laurel Police responded to Best Buy for a theft report. The investigation revealed that a customer made it appear to store employees he was simply swapping out a recently purchased computer monitor for a newer monitor. The subject provided a receipt and had a monitor in a box with him. It was later learned the box was empty. The suspect said he wanted to shop for something and asked if the new monitor could be left at the service desk. The suspect walked around the store and left the empty box in an aisle. He retrieved the new monitor from customer service and left the store.

At 2:57 a.m. on April 23, Mt. Laurel Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Church Road near Church St. During the stop officers arrested a male, age 36, of Marlton. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and released pending a court hearing.

At 2:48 p.m. on April 22, Mt. Laurel Police responded to Wegman’s on Centerton Road for a shoplifting report. Officers arrested a male, age 38, of Woodbury. He stole $138 worth of Red Bull energy drinks. He was charged with shoplifting and released pending a court hearing.

At 3:22 a.m. on April 22, Mt. Laurel Police located a suspicious occupied vehicle in the parking lot of a hotel on the 1100 block of Route 73. During the investigation officers arrested a male, age 22, of Langhorne, Pa. and Roman M. Volponi, age 26, Bristol, Pa. The first male was charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana. The second male was charged with possession of crystal methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both were released pending a court hearing.

At 11:26 a.m. on April 21, Mt. Laurel Police responded to Best Buy on Nixon Drive for a fight in progress. The investigation revealed that a male, age 53, of Willingboro, entered an area of the store restricted to employees. When he was asked to leave he punched an employee. He continued to act disorderly when police arrived. He was arrested and charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct. He was released pending a court hearing.
