Cherry Hill community ramping up efforts to get increase in school funding

Community members from all over Cherry Hill are standing up to fight for more state funding for the school district. For the past two years, a grassroots group called Fair Funding for Cherry Hill Public Schools has advocated for school district to receive more funding from the state of New Jersey. The group has gained the support of the school district and local politicians in their ongoing fight.

Cherry Hill East robotics advisor honored as Teacher of the Year

The Cherry Hill High School East Robotics Club made itself known in a number of ways at the 2017 Vex Robotics World Championship last week. Not only did all three of the club’s qualifying teams finished in the top-25 of their respective divisions, but the club’s faculty advisor, Joseph Dilks, was honored as the Robotics Education and Competition Foundation 2017 Teacher of the Year.

Cooper Elementary’s Math Mania Club comes out on top at Perennial Math Competition

Most of the 10 students in Cooper Elementary School’s Math Mania Club had never competed in an academic competition before taking part in the Perennial Math Competition at Rowan College at Burlington County last week. The students wound up exceeding their expectations, with one of the school’s team winning the fifth grade team competition.

Bond ordinance to fund new public safety communications system

At its meeting last Monday, Cherry Hill Township Council approved a bond ordinance on first reading to fund a new public safety communications system. Cherry Hill Chief of Police William Monaghan explained the current system is reaching the end of its lifespan and is scheduled for replacement. The new system would allow the township to switch to 700-megahertz and communicate with other surrounding towns.

Cherry Hill Police searching for theft suspects

Cherry Hill Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a pair of theft suspects. Last Thursday, the police department released the photos of two men who were accused of recently committing a theft at a Cherry Hill ShopRite. Anyone with information on the suspects is asked to contact Cherry Hill Police.
