Branching out in the community: Tree committee plants tree outside library

For every car, there needs to be 100 trees planted; For every truck, 1,000 trees are needed; and for every airplane, 10,000 trees are needed, Save the Environment of Moorestown President Joe Ponessa said at the annual Arbor Day celebration on Friday.

This year, a Norway Spruce was planted at the Moorestown Library, continuing the yearly tradition of providing trees throughout the township to encourage the celebration and recognition of Arbor Day.

Taking strides in the fight against hunger: Annual CROP Walk is approaching

Residents from Moorestown and neighboring communities in early May will join forces in the fight against hunger.

The annual CROP Walk has been a Moorestown tradition for decades and will take place on Sunday, May 7. The theme is “Ending Hunger One Step at a Time.”

Council takes steps toward a permanent solution for water treatment plants

Moorestown Township Council unanimously voted to approve two ordinances that will allocate $2.5 million, approximately $2.4 million of which will come from bonds or notes, to two water treatment plants — North Church Street and Hartford Road.

The first ordinance approved spending $1.5 million on preliminary engineer and design expenses for upgrades to the North Church Street plant, and the second approved spending approximately $1.05 million on upgrades to the Hartford Road plant.

Local environmental group working to clean up Moorestown, educate residents

For Save the Environment of Moorestown’s Natural Area Care Committee, saving the planet isn’t about one day of the year — Earth Day — it’s about taking little actions every day to make Moorestown a cleaner place.

Ongoing attention is required to keep open spaces healthy and clean, and the National Area Care Committee is taking on this challenge. The committee is cleaning up nine sites in 2017 — one each month from March until October.

Chords for a cause: high school acappella groups hold fundraiser for Autism New Jersey

With Autism Awareness Month coming to an end, MHS Interact Club held its fifth annual Acappella for Autism competition with high school a cappella groups from Moorestown, Cherry Hill, Germantown, Haddon Heights, Princeton, Howell and Millburn. Sirens Acappella, a high school-aged group not affiliated with a particular school, and collegiate a cappella group The Trentones from The College of New Jersey, also performed.
