In the spring 2017 township newsletter, Winslow Township Mayor Barry M. Wright discusses the township’s improvement in economic development and other projects around the area.
The following is from Mayor Barry Wright:
I am proud to say that the Township is continuing to grow by leaps and bounds! This is highly evident in the wide array of new local businesses, new residential homes being built, and the wonderful collaborations being initiated between the residents and various community organizations. The success of the Township is because of the dedication of the individual residents to keep our Township clean, our children healthy, and our communities safe! It truly is exciting when we get to see the community projects be so successful because of you!
It is also very important to keep our Township residents employed. The Township’s Economic Development Team is hard at work reaching out to local businesses and potential builders to keep jobs right here in Winslow Township — and to bring new opportunities to the forefront. It is vital for residents to also do their part and “think local”. By patronizing local businesses, you are keeping your neighbors employed — as many are either owners of these businesses, or employed by them. It’s easy to find these local listings by going to the Township mobile app “GORequest” and clicking on the Local Business button — or by visiting the Township website.
The Sicklerville Sidewalk Project is now complete along Williamstown and Sicklerville roadways. This project, funded through grants, is a wonderful addition to the Township, which connects individuals with local businesses and residential developments. The area of Winslow Township School #3 is anticipated to be the next area of concentration for upgraded crosswalks and handicap curbing.
In November 2016, Winslow Township became “Silver” certified through the Sustainable Jersey program. This accomplishment is a reflection of a multitude of initiatives throughout the Township that help make the Township more environmentally friendly. These efforts include going “paperless” for Township meetings, hosting the Township Green Fair each year, and much more.
If you have not had the opportunity to visit the newly upgraded Calabrese Park on North Central Avenue in Cedar Brook — please take your family to enjoy the park this spring! The park offers a new, upgraded playground, walking path, and adult exercise equipment that is courtesy of several combined grants. The Township has an abundance of wonderful parks with an array of sports fields, playground equipment, and much more for your family. You can easily locate the parks via the Township app “GORequest” and click on “Parks”.
I also want to sincerely thank all the residents for your amazing efforts this year with the newly enacted trash and recycling program. Your efforts have helped save the township over $71,000 this year alone on disposal costs. The weight of trash/garbage decreased by over 1,367 TONS in 2016 — and the amount of recycling increased by over 634 TONS! I know it has not been an easy transition — and I assure you that your time and energy have truly made a difference for our environment. Thank you!
