Weekly Roundup: Plenty of opportunities to help out fellow community members in Voorhees

This week, Voorhees announced many different events, such as walks, Beef and Beers and Project SARAH classes, to help community members of Voorhees. Read below for the week’s top headlines:

Join the March of Dimes to help premature babies

“For those who might not know, our sweet girl Isabella was born at 33 weeks,” Juliana Cardillo wrote on Facebook.

Isabella was born at only 15 inches long, and weighed 2 pounds and 10 ounces. She had an intrauterine growth restriction, a condition in which a baby does not grow to normal weight during pregnancy.

Cardillo said she knew it would be a high-risk pregnancy due to her being diagnosed with preeclampsia. She said she made daily visits to the doctor. She was in the hospital for a month before delivering Isabella.

Now, Cardillo is trying to give back to the organization that saved her baby’s life. Join Cardillo at the March of Dimes walk on April 30 to get involved.

Music-themed Beef and Beer to benefit veterans

Dance through the years at American Legion George Walton Post 371, Berenato Hall at 41 N Lakeview Drive on Saturday, April 22.

Each $25 ticket promises the attendee enjoyment of dancing, a DJ, Beef and Beer (plus wine!), 50/50s, a basket auction and special designer bag raffle.

Dine to donate to homeless cats and dogs

That’s Amore Restaurant is hosting a three-day event where proceeds will support animals without shelter. Enjoy a meal at That’s Amore Restaurant in Collingswood, and 20 percent of the bill will be donated to help homeless cats and dogs.

Tell your server you are there to support the Voorhees Animal Orphanage on April 25–27.

Mayor’s column: Project SARAH educates students about sexual assault

On May 1 at 7 p.m. at the Katz JCC social hall, 1301 Springdale Road in Chery Hill, the JFCS Project SARAH (Stop Abusive Relationships at Home) Program is offering a free presentation of “Protect U and Yours: Keeping Your Children Safe from College Campus Assault.”

If you have a son or daughter attending college, if you have a friend or relative with a child in college or if you are visiting colleges and trying to figure out which college is the best and safest fit for your child, this program is essential. Staying safe is an ongoing discussion in which parents and students should be engaged.
