Annual Cherokee Spring Craft Show fundraiser set for April 29

Funds will go toward the Cherokee Foundation for Education to fund academic supplies and needs of students and clubs at Cherokee.

Locals will soon have the chance to buy crafts for their homes while also supporting academics at Cherokee High School with the fourth annual Cherokee Spring Craft Show.

Craft fans can put their money toward crafts and a good cause by visiting Cherokee on April 29 for a wide array of handcrafted items from local artisans such as quilts, pillows, home décor, original art, wreaths, ceramics, clothing, accessories, jewelry, stained glass, soaps and more.

Registered vendor brands for this year’s event already include Avon, Lilla Rose, Lularoe, Paparazzi, Pink Zebra, Premier Designs, Scentsy, ThirtyOne, Usborne and Young Living Essential Oils.

With Cherokee students also providing face painting for children and several vendors selling hot food, event organizers describe the craft show as a fun day for the whole family.

Once again organizing this year’s event is the Cherokee Foundation for Education, which seeks to provide financial support for students and clubs at Cherokee that might otherwise lack the means for academic supplies and activities such as educational speakers and field trips.

Foundation President Lisa Michaud described the annual craft show as one of the foundation’s biggest fundraisers, with more than 80 vendors already scheduled to be on hand this year.

“Sometimes our teachers and students just need things that aren’t available in the budget,” Michaud said. “The craft show is one of our major fundraisers to help raise the money to be able to fund these types of things.”

Michaud said while larger student activities at Cherokee such as sports and the marching band can have their own booster clubs and outside financial support, often the smaller, academically focused clubs can slip through the cracks.

“There’s certainly a place for sports or band, but the main purpose of attending high school is getting an education, graduation and having academic success,” Michaud said. “Sometimes there’s nobody to back the other kids up that work so hard throughout the year, so here we are.”

The fundraiser is scheduled for April 29 at Cherokee High School, rain or shine, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Vendors looking to apply for the event or have their name added to the waiting list can visit www.cherokeefoundation4education.com. The cost is $35 per space, and vendors must bring their own canopy, tables and chairs.

Those interested in learning more about or joining the Cherokee Foundation for Education can visit www.cherokeefoundation4education.com or send an email to cherokeefe@gmail.com.

“We’re always looking for more parents to come in and support the foundation that benefits all our students,” Michaud said. “We’re always looking for new people. You need ideas and fresh people.”
