School district continues the search for the next superintendent

The next superintendent will assume the role starting July 1.

Cinnaminson Township Public Schools is continuing the search for the next superintendent, Board of Education President Jean Cohen said at this week’s meeting.

After advertising the position for four weeks in various publications and on the New Jersey Association of School Administrators website, the district received 29 applications and is now in the interview phase.

Cohen said at the February BOE meeting that interviews would begin in April to select a superintendent to start this summer, and the board has not wavered from that timetable.

“The search is still on schedule and we will have the next superintendent in the district by July 1,” Cohen said.

Current Superintendent Salvatore Illuzzi announced his retirement in December, effective June 30. Illuzzi had originally planned to retire in 2014, but chose to stay to assist with renovations in the district.

Cohen says receiving so many applications for the position is a true reflection of the district’s excellence.

• Illuzzi announced the executive county superintendent of schools approved the district’s tentative 2017–2018 budget. The budget will be presented in detail at the public hearing scheduled for Tuesday, April 25.

The budget is $50.8 million, up 2.68 percent from the previous year, with $34.99 million to be raised through taxation. For the average Cinnaminson home valued at $232,193, school taxes would increase by $114.03 per year, or approximately $9.50 per month, if the budget is approved as proposed.

• Illuzzi recognized members of the Board of Education in honor of April being National Volunteer Month.

“Unlike government agencies, these folks do it because they truly want to. There is no salary attached to this job,” Illuzzi said. “We’re most fortunate in Cinnaminson in having board members who truly care about the mission of the school district and what is best for our students.”

• The next regular Board of Education meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m.
