Teens to sleep out in support of homeless youth

Orthodox Church of the Holy Cross will spend the night away from home raise funds in support of Covenant House

On April 28 and April 29, the 2017 youth (12 to 18) from the Orthodox Church of the Holy Cross in Medford will be spending the night away from the comfort of their homes to raise awareness about homeless young people. This effort will also raise funds in support of Covenant House in Camden which helps kids from both Burlington and Camden counties. Though Covenant House Sleep Outs for adults have taken place in our area before, this will be the first “Student Edition,” bringing together those from various faith communities and other local organizations.

The group will be sleeping out in the church’s parking lot to understand for just one night what 1 in 45 kids in America will suffer through this year, and to join them in solidarity in their daily struggle for basic human rights. They will hopefully learn and teach the community about the plight of homeless young people, not the kids thousands of miles away or on television, but the kids just a few miles away who slip by unnoticed.

The evening will feature presentations by the Covenant House staff and other community leaders and include other activities. For more information about this event, please visit our website: www.holycrossmedford.org or to register, click on the link below.
