Mt. Laurel Township updates list of polling locations for 2017

The township has attempted to move residents’ polling locations closer to their homes.

Mt. Laurel Township has released an updated list of polling locations for 2017.

The township recently sought approval from Burlington County to move polling locations for more than half of the voting districts in town to reduce crowding at Paws Discovery Farm during last November’s national election and generally move locations closer to residents’ homes.

The 2016 national election was the first presidential election since Mt. Laurel moved polling locations out of school buildings in late 2015 due to safety concerns stemming from an incident at Parkway Elementary School earlier that year.

During the 2015 primary election, a man made a threatening phone call to Parkway Elementary during voting hours, claiming he was inside the school with a gun. Although police eventually determined the threat was unfounded, polls were forced to close and the school and children inside underwent a lockdown while police searched the area.

The county has approved the township to move polling locations for the following voting districts for 2017:

• District No. 5 will move from Paws Discovery Farm, 1105 Hainesport-Mt. Laurel Road, to the Masonville Fire Station, 105 Masonville Road.
