The purpose of the forum is to increase awareness of the dangers of substance abuse as well as options for recovery.
Burlington County Freeholder Linda Hughes announced Wednesday, March 29 that the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders has partnered with Ashley Addiction Treatment, a nationally recognized leader in the treatment of alcoholism and drug addiction, to bring their addiction educational programs to the residents of Burlington County. They will host a free alcohol and drug addiction community forum.
The forum will be held on Thursday, April 27 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Burlington County Library Main Branch located at 5 Pioneer Blvd. in Westampton.
“Ashley Addiction Treatment boasts an impressive array of professionals including medical doctors, psychologists, registered nurses, addiction counselors and specialized clinicians,” said Freeholder Hughes. “Ashley provides drug and alcohol addiction treatment that combines the science of medicine, the art of therapy and the compassion of spirituality for patients and their families.”
“The forum will focus on explaining the science behind addiction, the epidemic and how we got here, along with what resources are available and how to best access and utilize them,” Hughes said.
She said experts will be on hand to discuss topics such as how to tell if a loved one is using, signs and symptoms of substance abuse, addiction in adults verse young people, how children are at risk, when and how to ask for help, what people can do to help friends or family members who are struggling, and what programs are available for addicts and their families. Residents will also have the opportunity to ask questions.

“We must attack this issue in Burlington County with facts, knowledge and public awareness,” Hughes said. “It is our hope that this special event will convey a lasting message and provide insight to our residents that they are not alone in this battle and there are resources available to them.’’
