Cap Banks narrowly passes in committee

Also, Fire Code Fee Schedule passes and Eagle Scout honored

Township committee last week unanimously approved the fire permit and inspection fees.

Most of the discussion centered around if churches and other houses of worship should be charged an inspection fee. Heading into last Monday’s committee meeting, there was not a definitive answer if the locations would be charged, creating some questions on the agenda about the ordinance. However, after some discussion and deliberation, the committee decided to make churches exempt from paying the inspection fees.

In other news:

• The committee passed an ordinance that allowed the township to create what is known as a cap bank. According to the ordinance, the cap bank allows the township to “increase the budget to 3.5 percent above last year’s appropriations in the interest of promoting the health, safety and welfare of the citizens.” The item is usually an administrative item pertaining to budgets. The vote passed, 3–2.

• Before handling county business, the committee honored Graham Peter Wilson for obtaining the role of Eagle Scout. Wilson, who is a member of Troop 439, has been a Scout since the first grade. He helped build an old wood boardwalk at Delanco Camp that provided access to those with disabilities. He also went back packing 90 miles on Mount Phillips in New Mexico.

“I would like to thank everyone that came out here to support me,” Wilson said. “I’d also like to thank all of the adults that came out and helped me along my Scouting journey. It really means a lot to me that all of you guys showed up tonight. Thank you.”
