Library to host poetry slam for teens and adults

The slam will be held on Saturday, April 8 at noon.

The Cinnaminson Library is hosting an In Verse Poetry and Prose Slam on Saturday, April 8 for teens and adults to have their voices heard while vying for a chance to win a prize.

Set for noon to 3 p.m., this competition will give local artists an opportunity to perform their work before a live audience while having some fun. Both poetry and prose are acceptable, and participants will have three minutes to perform each piece and take a shot at winning a prize. First prize is a $75 Amazon gift card and second prize is a $25 Amazon gift card. There will also be an honorable mention third place prize.

Those who would rather just sit back and enjoy the event are welcome to attend as well, and there will be an open mic available between competition rounds for any audience member who wants to perform just for fun.

The In Verse Poetry group will hold a workshop focusing on slam poetry at the Cinnaminson Library on Thursday, April 6 at 6 p.m. and anyone thinking about entering is encouraged to attend. The library’s In Verse Poetry and Writer’s Critique groups also meet monthly to offer constructive criticism and different perspectives, and new members are always welcome.
