Patience, preparation asked of residents for impending storm

Washington Township Public Works Department advises residents to stay off roads and begin preparations for upcoming snow storm

Washington Township recommends its residents stay clear of the roads tonight into tomorrow as the snow storm, with accumulations of 8 to 12 inches, approaches.

“Our crews will be working diligently to clear all roads in Washington Township, but please be patient, as some plowing efforts may be delayed during the height of the storm for our crews’ safety,” a statement on the township website said.

Due to the threat of severe weather the trash & recycling pick-up will be delayed one day. If your trash day is Tuesday, it will be picked up on Wednesday, if your trash day is Friday, it will be picked up on Saturday.

In order to keep residents safe and enhance the efficiency of snow clean-up, residents were asked to follow the below guidelines:

  • “A state of emergency may be declared. Please stay off the roads to allow only emergency vehicle and township crews to navigate and clear the streets properly.
  • Refrain from parking vehicles on the street. You could be ticketed.
  • Remove basketball nets and any other equipment from the street.
  • Do not put your trash carts in the street until after they have been plowed back to the curb.
  • Looking at your house from the street, shovel snow to the left of your apron.
  • Do not blow or shovel snow into the street after they have been plowed. You could be ticketed.
  • Please shovel around your mailbox and fire hydrants near your house — for your safety and your neighbor.
  • Do not approach the plow operators or impede their work.
  • All snow and/or ice must be removed from sidewalks, creating a clear path as wide as the sidewalk, within 24 hours of the cessation of the snowfall, as per New Jersey State Law. This is for your safety and your neighbors’ safety.”
