Weekly Roundup: Evans Elementary to still close, Evesham Democrats get visit from Rep Tom MacArthur

The Lenape Regional High School District is also set to host its annual student job fair on March 2.

Evesham BOE votes to continue school consolidation and closure of Evans Elementary School

The Evesham Township Board of Education has voted to move forward with its school consolidation plan and the closure of Evans Elementary School at the end of this school year. The board’s 5–4 vote to continue with consolidation came at the end of a more than four-hour meeting on Thursday night after dozens of residents and teachers spoke for and against the closure of Evans.

Republican Rep. Tom MacArthur makes surprise visit to meeting of Evesham Democrats

The Evesham Township Democratic Committee had a surprise guest at its meeting on Tuesday when Republican Rep. Tom MacArthur popped in the basement of the Gibson House Community Center. MacArthur had just finished a meeting with Action Together Burlington County, an organization that had been protesting at his office at the Gibson House the previous Friday, when MacArthur noticed a sign advertising the latest meeting of Evesham Democrats taking place downstairs.

Lenape Regional High School District to host annual student job fair on March 2

The Lenape Regional High School District will host its annual Student Job Fair on Thursday, March 2 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Lenape High School. The district describes the fair as an “excellent opportunity” for both employers and district students to meet and discuss job openings. This fair is open to students who are 15 of age and older from Lenape, Shawnee, Cherokee, and Seneca High Schools.

Marlton residents approve 2017 budget for Evesham Township Fire District No. 1

Marlton residents have approved the 2017 budget for Evesham Township Fire District No. 1. In addition to the budget, voters also approved a bond referendum. Both the budget and bond will not result in a tax increase. According to the district, this is the third consecutive year that the district has not had a tax increase.

Evesham Police attempt to identify man suspected of stealing from St. Joan of Arc

During the overnight hours of Feb. 13, police say an unknown male stole cash and gift cards from offices inside the St. Joan of Arc Church, 100 Willowbend Road. According to police, an investigation determined that the male had entered the church at approximately 6:15 p.m. The suspect then hid inside a guest room on the second floor of the church, where members of the church live.
