Burlington County announces first shredding event of 2017

This free event is for Burlington County residents only. Residents are urged to bring only “confidential” documents for shredding.

Burlington County Freeholder Director Bruce Garganio announced today that the county’s first shredding event of 2017 will be held on Sunday, March 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine, at the Burlington County Resource Recovery Complex, located at 22,000 Burlington-Columbus Road in Mansfield.

“We are happy to offer these events for responsible paper disposal which will help residents reduce the risk of identity theft,” Garganio said. “Last year, these popular events drew 4,828 residents and we were able to recycle 184,140 pounds of shredded paper.”

Residents are urged to bring only “confidential” documents for shredding, such as bank and credit card statements, tax returns, papers with account numbers or social security numbers. They will be shredded on-site. No binders, plastic folders, computer disks or plastic credit cards will be accepted. Up to four bags or boxes per car will be accepted. Already-shredded paper can also be recycled at this event.

“With volunteers on hand to unload your confidential files, you do not even need to leave the comfort of your vehicle,” Garganio said. “The county continues to be proactive in removing recyclables from our waste stream and we encourage residents to make use of shred events and all other county services for proper waste disposal.”

Dates and locations for additional shredding events will be announced in the coming weeks.

This free event is for Burlington County residents only. ID is required. No businesses, please. For more information call (609) 499–1001 weekdays or email recycle@co.burlington.nj.us.
