Board votes to increase Pre-K tuition

$1,000 increase to take place beginning next school year

The Shamong Board of Education approved a measure to increase tuition for prekindergarten. Tuition will be $3,500 for the 2017–2017 school year, a $1,000 increase from last year. The board will be giving more details about the tuition increase during the budget meeting that is scheduled for April 25.

In other news…

• The board approved Lenape High School senior Nicole Matthews to shadow in a third-grade class. Matthews, who is a member of the National Honor Society, looks to one day have a career in education. The National Honor Society is a national group consisting of students who not only do well academically, but are high character individuals and give back to the community.

• The board announced that there will be early dismissals on March 1 and March 2 due to parent-teacher conferences.

• Finally, the board voted to make the April 25 meeting the public hearing on the 2017–2018 budget. The original meeting was slated to be just a regular meeting.

The next Shamong Board of Education meeting will take place on March 15 at 7 p.m. at Indian Mills Memorial Middle School.
