Moorestown Fire District election results

The polls were open from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

In preparation for the year ahead, elections for Moorestown Fire Districts №1 and №2 were held on Saturday, Feb. 18. After the polls closed at 9 p.m., the unofficial results showed both districts passed their fire budgets and appointed incumbent candidates to leadership roles.

For Fire District №1, full-term incumbent candidates R. Max Fisher received 75 votes, and Grant R. Leuliette received 78 votes. Both ran unopposed.

The 2017 annual budget passed with 79 votes for and 13 votes against. Voters also approved the district spending up to $600,000 for the purchase of a new fire engine, and for up to $50,000 for the purchase of a new command vehicle.

“For this election, the county received one Vote by Mail and 96 voters showed at the polls, [although] I would have liked to see more of a voter turnout,” said Christopher M. Chesner, Fire District administrator of Moorestown Fire District №1. “Our volunteer firefighters are excited and very appreciative of the residents’ support this year and past years.”

Official results for Fire District №2 yielded newcomer Cynthia Maahs-Knobbs, who ran unopposed, was elected to a three-year term with 56 votes. Voters also approved a $744,386 tax levy that is part of a $1,336,973 budget by a vote of 54 to 5.

In addition, by a margin of 51 to 7, voters approved the spending of up to $75,000 to install a vehicle exhaust removal system at the Lenola Volunteer Fire Station. Funding for this system will be provided by an unrestricted reserve fund balance.

“Speaking on behalf of the board and the Lenola Volunteer Fire Company, we are very thankful to the residents for their support of the budget and their approval to install a vehicle exhaust removal system at the firehouse,” said Elizabeth Booth, board administrator of the Board of Fire Commissioners of Moorestown Fire District №2.” Their continual support of our volunteer firefighters is much appreciated.”
