The arrest occurred near New Albany Road and Route 130 North
On Feb. 17 at 11:26 p.m., officer Kyle Hess was on patrol in the area of Route 130 North and New Albany Road when he observed a motor vehicle offense and stopped the vehicle. Hess approached the vehicle and detected the odor of marijuana.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a loaded handgun, controlled dangerous substances and drug paraphernalia. Hess arrested the driver, 23-year-old Ernest Barnes of Pennsauken, without incident.
Barnes was charged with Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes, Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance with Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Firearm During Distribution of CDS, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of Fireworks. Barnes was lodged in Burlington County Jail.
