Letter to the Editor: I am not the man I am today without Coach Boguszewski

Letter writer asks Eastern Regional High School to reconsider its decision to let Boguszewski go.

My name is Cade Regn and I am a senior at Eastern Regional High School. I plan on attending college and playing football at the next level. I was a captain on the team and a three-year starter as well. I am speaking for Coach Danny Boguszewski on his behalf.

I am not the man I am today without Coach Bogs. I think most people believe coaches are measured on how many games they win. I think people should look at the individual and what he brings to the table. I truly believe that Coach Bogs got the head coaching job because of his willingness to take a job that everyone knew there was not much talent left in a conference that is stacked. There weren’t too many big names applying at Eastern three years ago for this job, but Coach Bogs did. He took a chance knowing he had a lot of work to do and was so excited to make our program great.

Coach Bogs was always so proud to be part of Eastern High School and its prestigious reputation, and he was so thankful for our great facilities. I will always remember my freshman year as we were all in the Recital Hall waiting for our new head coach to arrive at the scene, and we all look to our left and see this man clapping as loud as he can. He had a fire under his belly and told us he wanted to be here until he was 70 and we believed him. We all felt his energy that he was going be our guy we were rolling with every Friday night under the lights.

In front of the crowd this man was a father figure to some kids on our team. He was there for everybody didn’t matter how much experience you had or where you came from. We all wanted to achieve the same goal, and that was winning. Maybe we didn’t win as many games as we would have liked, but I also know a coach in New England whose first three years were losing seasons, but we know how that turned out.

Rome wasn’t built in a day, but we did reach one goal and exceeded that goal, and that was creating a family. We will always have that player coach bond that will last a lifetime, even if the coach doesn’t coach anymore.

I get it, Eastern wants to win, but in my eyes, we have won. Every year we got better and won more games and became closer as a team. You have to “trust the process” and ride the waves with all of Coach Bogs great ideas. I’m very thankful Coach Bogs was my coach at Eastern High School all my years as a Viking, giving me great memories that I can share with my children one day and tell them how great and dedicated my high school football coach was. He truly is the best coach I ever had. I hope Eastern would reconsider its decision to let this young, energetic and caring guy go. Thank you.
