Girl Scouts issue statement after volunteer charged with possession of child pornography

Last Friday, Phillip Sheppard of Cherry Hill, a Girl Scouts volunteer, was charged with one count of third degree possession of child pornography.

The Girl Scouts of Central and Southern New Jersey Inc. have released a statement after a volunteer from Cherry Hill was arrested last week and charged with possession of child pornography.

Last Friday, Cherry Hill resident Phillip Sheppard was charged with one third-degree count of possession of child pornography after detectives from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office seized numerous digital media devices from inside the residence and discovered images of child pornography during an onsite preview of Sheppard’s computer.

A release from the prosecutor’s office said Sheppard was a volunteer with the Girl Scouts. GSCSNJ said in the statement the organization of the scouts and volunteer is the organization’s top priority.

“Girl Scouts of Central & Southern New Jersey is aware of an arrest made involving a now suspended volunteer,” the statement said. “The safety and protection of girls and adult volunteers is our top priority and we practice strict safety guidelines to ensure the security of our girls, volunteers and staff. Girl Scouts of Central & Southern New Jersey is fully cooperating with authorities, but is not at liberty to comment on pending investigations. Thank you for your support of Girl Scouting.”

Sheppard was charged by summons on Friday and released.
