From July 1 through Dec. 31 of 2016, the district saw a total of 28 incidents, which was a drop from the 31 incidents in the district from the same period the previous year.
From July 1 through Dec. 31, the Lenape Regional High School District saw a slight decrease in incidents of violence, vandalism, weapons, substance abuse and harassment, intimidation and bullying when compared to the same time period for the previous year.
The LRHSD Board of Education reviewed the district’s latest statistics at its latest meeting, per state requirements.
Twice a year, school districts must publicly report such statistics for the time periods of July to December and January to June, in addition to giving a total report for the year.
From July 1 through Dec. 31, 2016, the district saw a total of 28 incidents, which was a drop from the 31 incidents in the district from the same period the previous year.
When broken down by category, there were 12 incidents of violence, two incidents of vandalism, no weapons offenses, 12 substance abuse incidents and two incidents of harassment, intimidation and bullying.
From that same time period the previous year, the district saw a drop in four areas, decreasing from 13 incidents of violence to 12, decreasing from six incidents of vandalism to two, decreasing from one weapons offense to zero, and decreasing from four incidents of harassment, intimidation and bullying to two.
The only area the district saw an increase was in the number of substance abuse incidents, with the district increasing from seven to 12.
The latest report from July 1 through Dec. 31 was also broken into subdivisions for each category.
For violence incidents, there were seven assaults, four fights and one threat.
In the vandalism division, there was one bomb threat and one threat. Within five hours of the bomb threat, which took place at Seneca High School one night in December, police identified and arrested an anonymous caller, who was found to be a juvenile not of the Lenape Regional High School District.
There were five confirmed incidents among students of substance use and seven incidents of substance possession. These include illicit drugs, over-the-counter drugs and prescription drugs.
For incidents of harassment, intimidation and bullying, of seven allegations there were two confirmed incidents that dealt with gender and other distinguished characteristics. Consequences for students included suspension, counseling for all parties, assigned mentors, and cease and desist agreements.
District anti-bullying training throughout the year includes the No Place for Hate programs, Violence Awareness Week, Week of Respect, the Leadership Role Model program, the Green Dot program, Stand Up and I.D. HIB, the Upstander program and the Peer Mentor program.
