The new law eliminates bail for those who are deemed a risk to public safety.
On Jan. 1, a new bail reform law in New Jersey went into effect, and there is a meeting tonight at Dreams of Tomorrow Center in Sicklerville at 7 p.m. to explain the new law and discuss the implementations.
The state shifted from a system that relies principally on setting bail as a condition of release to a risk-based system that is more objective and more fair to defendants because it is unrelated to their ability to pay bail.
