Students celebrate 100th day of school with 100-year-old visitor

Bells Elementary students were joined by Mildred Care to celebrate the 100th day of school

Bells Elementary School third-grade teacher Jen Knorr and her students welcomed Knorr’s 100-year-old grandmother Mildred Care (center holding book) and her mother, Elaine Larthey, for a classroom celebration of the 100th day of school.

Who better to celebrate the 100th day of school with than a special 100-year-old visitor? Mildred Care, the grandmother of Bells Elementary School third-grade teacher Jen Knorr, was embraced by Knorr’s students and questioned about what her school days were like when she stopped by on Feb. 8. Care read the class “The Night Before the 100th Day of School” and joined in some 100th day activities.

“The kids loved her,” Knorr said. “She noticed how bright and colorful our classrooms were and shared what the classrooms in her school in Philadelphia looked like, with wall dividers, when she was growing up. We showed her a bunch of the projects that we are working on with Adobe Spark and Class Dojo. She was fascinated by the technology and loved seeing the students using the Smart Board.”
