The township has offered its thanks to the taxpayers of Evesham Township for their timely tax payments.
Evesham Township recently congratulated its tax collection office, led by Kathy Merkh, on achieving a record tax collection rate of 99.16 percent.
According to the township, a strong relationship exists between the township’s tax collection rate and the township’s bond rating. Township officials describe the bond ratings of the Evesham Township School District, Lenape Regional High School District, Evesham Fire District and Burlington County as all benefiting from the township’s high collection rate.
With the rate, the township pays less interest when financing capital projects.
Township officials also note that when the township’s tax collection rate improves, this is a direct township budget savings in the township budget’s reserve for uncollected taxes. The state-required reserve allows school districts, counties and other entities to receive 100 percent of their anticipated property tax revenue.
The township’s share of residents property tax bill is 15 cents per every $1 collected. According to the township, Evesham typically budgets $1.9 million to cover the gab between what is collected and what must be paid to other government entities.
