Evesham police officer finds overdose victim, uses overdose-reversing drug to save life

On Jan. 25, at 1:30 p.m., an Evesham police officer observed a male stumbling along the sidewalk of Troth Road.

On Jan. 25, at 1:30 p.m., an Evesham police officer observed a male stumbling along the sidewalk of Troth Road. As the officer approached the male, the male collapsed, became unconscious and was barely breathing from an apparent drug overdose.

Police say the officer quickly retrieved his issued Nasal Narcan Unit from his patrol car. Upon observing the male’s unresponsive state, the officer administered a dose of the Narcan. Within seconds, the male positively reacted to the medication by regaining consciousness and normal breathing.

According to police, the male was transported to a local hospital, where he received further medical treatment. Police say the officer’s quick thinking and his calm and proper deployment of the Nasal Narcan Unit saved the life of the male.

Once released from the hospital the male was charged with possession of 15 bags of heroin and lodged in the Burlington County Jail.

Arrested:

Joseph Bush Jr, age 23, of Marlton, was charged with third-degree possession of heroin and a disorderly persons offense for being under the influence of narcotics. He was lodged in the Burlington County jail without bail.
