Obituary: John Evans Courtney

John Evans Courtney passed away on Jan. 13, 2017

Longtime Haddonfield resident John Evans Courtney, age 86, passed away on Jan. 13, 2017.

He was the beloved husband of Marilyn (nee Annach); loving brother of Lee Courtney and Walt (Louise) Courtney both of West Virginia, and the late Norman Courtney, and dear uncle of Karen Spencer, Kevin Courtney and Eileen Courtney.

Mr. Courtney served honorably in U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer. He had a long career as an Electrical Engineer at RCA, GE and Lockheed Martin. He was a longtime dedicated volunteer of the Rancocas Nature Center. Additionally, Mr. Courtney served as a board member on the New Jersey Audubon Society for more than 30 years, was a member and former president of the Audubon Wild Life Society and taught birding classes at the Haddonfield Adult School.

Mr. Courtney’s family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, Jan. 27, from 6–8 p.m. at Kain-Murphy Funeral Services, 15 West End Ave., Haddonfield. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rancocas Nature Center, 794 Rancocas Road, Westampton, NJ 08060.
